Transfer Credit For Military

Transfer of Credit

No school, including Wayland Baptist University, can guarantee that credits from courses are transferable.  Such transfer of credits is at the discretion of the receiving school and depends on the comparability of curricula and accreditation.

Transfer Credit – Undergraduate Degree Programs

Wayland Baptist University will consider transfer work toward all undergraduate degrees.  This includes test and transfer credit which will be assessed and applied if applicable toward the requirements for the respective degree chosen.  All undergraduate degrees must maintain a WBU minimum residency requirement of 25% of the total hours required. Up to 75% of the hours required for the degree can be accepted as credit in transfer. These credits can come from a combination of the following:

BAS degrees:

  • EPD (work experience)
  • Military/Prior Learning Assessment work
  • Test credit (i.e. CLEP, DSST, Advanced Standing Exams)
  • Assessed credit (i.e. JST, certificates)
  • Academic credit from regionally or nationally accredited institutions that are recognized by the Department of Education.

All other undergraduate degrees:

  • Academic credit from regionally or nationally accredited institutions that are recognized by the Department of Education.
  • CLEP exams
  • ACT and SAT exams for English and Math
  • Advanced Placement Exams

Information concerning credit accepted in transfer for graduate programs can be viewed at http://catalog.wbu.edu/content.php?catoid=8&navoid=733#transfer_credit.

For most degrees, degree candidates may satisfy a maximum of 12 graduate semester hours with approved courses transferred from another accredited institution. Exceptions to this policy are outlined in the specific degree areas. To transfer credit from other institutions, a student must submit an official transcript of the courses to be considered and may be required to submit a catalog description of the course from the institution where the course was taken. To transfer credit, the student must have earned a grade of B (C for Master of Divinity) or higher for the course. Any course accepted by transfer will carry credit but not grade-point value.

With proper documentation, up to 12 hours of graduate business course credit may be awarded toward the M.A.M., M.B.A., or M.P.A. degree requirements based upon successful completion and official documentation of Intermediate and/or senior educational levels of the military services.

A few programs accept more than 12 hours of graduate credit in transfer.

MA-Counseling:

Degree candidates for the M.A. in Counseling may satisfy a maximum of 18 graduate semester hours with approved courses transferred from another institution. However, for a student transferring from another Wayland degree program to the M.A. in counseling, a maximum of 12 hours will be allowed in transfer. To transfer credit from other institutions, a student must submit an official transcript of the courses to be considered and may be required to submit a catalog description of the course from the institution where the course was taken. The appropriate academic dean must approve transfer credit. The link is: http://catalog.wbu.edu/preview_program.php?catoid=8&poid=2660

Master of Divinity:

Students in the Master of Divinity program may transfer a total of up to one-half the requirements for the Master of Divinity degree. Students with a completed master’s degree from another institution may transfer up to one-half of the completed degree. Students with a completed Master of Arts in Religion or Master of Christian Ministry degree from Wayland Baptist University may transfer the entire degree subject to the transfer limit of one-half the total Master of Divinity degree requirements.  The link is:  http://catalog.wbu.edu/preview_program.php?catoid=8&poid=2651

Doctor of Management

Wayland considers for transfer collegiate-level work completed at an accredited institution of higher education recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and/or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). To be acceptable for transfer, the work must be of comparable level and content with the degree being sought at Wayland. For the transfer of work from foreign institutions, the original transcript and a copy translated into Standard English, certified by a translator approved by the university registrar, must be presented. An evaluation of the transcript may also be required. Transfer credit is assessed and students are informed of the amount of credit that will transfer prior to their enrollment whenever possible, but no later than the end of the first academic term in which they are enrolled.

Degree candidates may satisfy a maximum of two-thirds of the degree with approved courses transferred from another institution. To transfer credit from other institutions, a student must submit an official transcript of the courses to be considered and may be required to submit a catalog description of the course from the institution where the course was taken. In cases where an equivalency is not easily interpreted, the student may be required to submit a course syllabus that outlines the course competencies.  To transfer credit, the student must have earned a grade of B or higher in the course. The academic school dean must approve transfer credit.
