Santa Claus makes guest appearance Dec. 1 at Lighting Up Wayland

PLAINVIEW – Santa Claus is coming to Wayland Baptist University.

North Pole officials confirm St. Nick has agreed to make a guest appearance at “Lighting Up Wayland,” a post-Christmas parade party featuring fun, food, and fellowship. The jolly old elf plans to greet children of all ages and hand out candy canes.

“Lighting Up Wayland” takes place on the steps of Gates Hall immediately following Plainview’s lighted Christmas parade on Thursday, Dec. 1. Wayland Baptist University is inviting the Greater Plainview community to join students, faculty, and staff for the celebration. Free Frito pies, s’mores, coffee, hot chocolate, and Christmas cookies will be available beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Keeping with the “Music of Christmas” parade theme, “Lighting Up Wayland” will include the university’s International Choir performing holiday favorites. Children get to join in by singing along on a couple of songs.

In addition to the arrival of Santa, the highlight of the evening will be the moment when Gates Hall is lit with holiday décor. It’s a moment folks won’t want to miss as this Wayland Christmas tradition continues at 1900 West Seventh St.

In addition to the music and lighting ceremony, Dr. Bobby Hall, University President, is scheduled read the Christmas Story from the Bible. “Lighting Up Wayland” participants also can register for three door prizes, and there will be lots of opportunities for holiday photos with Wayland’s historic Gates Hall lighted to serve as a holiday backdrop.
