WBU Wichita Falls Honors Alumnus with Award

WICHITA FALLS – Wayland Baptist University honored a recent alumnus at their May graduation ceremony in Wichita Falls. Amid a backdrop of degrees and commencement addresses, Ashton Rousseaux was honored as Distinguished Alumni Award winner for 2022.

Rousseaux serves as the Associate College Pastor at First Baptist Church in Wichita Falls after volunteering with the ministry for five years. For three years prior, he enjoyed ministry with the Greater Wichita Falls Fellowship of Christian Athletes, or FCA, sharing the gospel in junior high and high schools in the area.  He also serves on the FBC worship team as a drummer alongside his brother, who plays electric guitar.

The son of a now-retired Air Force Major, Ashton graduated high school in Frederick, Md., then earned his Bachelor of Christian Ministry from Wayland in 2020. He is currently wrapping up a Master of Divinity degree with Liberty University. In his spare time, he is a professional, natural body builder and has recently earned his pro card. He also enjoys hunting, movies and making high-quality homemade pizza.

“As a faith-based institution, we love seeing our alumni out doing ministry and impacting the Kingdom whether it is vocationally like Ashton or alongside their work. As a minister to college students, we know Ashton is impacting a generation that desperately needs to know and feel God’s love and to be empowered to do great things for him as well,” said Teresa Young, Director of Alumni Relations at Wayland. “His heart for ministry and service make him a great choice for Distinguished Alumnus of the Phoenix campus, and we’re so proud to honor him.”

Rousseaux will be competing with other campus winners from 2022 for the Alumnus of the Year award to be presented at Homecoming in February 2023. Wayland has selected a winner for each of its campuses since 2018.
