About this Program

The Master of Public Administration degree is designed to prepare both public and private sector employees for a career and/or promotion in administration. Students may choose from one of three specializations: government administration, homeland security/emergency management, or justice administration.

Offered online through the School of Behavioral and Social Sciences, the 36-hour MPA can be completed in 18 months. All the courses required for the degree are available online. Credit is also accepted from core business courses required for the MPA which have been taken in a traditional classroom. 

The Homeland Security/Emergency Management specialization requires 18 hours of business, management and public administration courses with no more than nine hours from non-public administration courses.

Students in this program should expect to take 18 hours of core business and public administration courses, like Ethics and Public Finance, as well as 18 hours of field-specific courses, such as Emergency Management, Organizational Theory, and Negotiations in Management.


The Master of Public Administration degree specializing in Homeland Security/Emergency Management requires a total of 36 hours, 18 hours being core courses and 18 hours specializing in homeland security/emergency management.
