

MORE RECORDS FALL AT UTA OPEN
Members of the Wayland Baptist Pioneer track and field team established two new school records, posted four first place finishes, and met two new qualifying standards at the University of Texas-Arlington Open on Saturday.
Kimberly Smith and Purity Biwott broke their own records in the 100-meters and 800-meters respectively. Smith finished second with a school-record time of 11.48, bettering her previous mark of 11.65 set earlier this spring. Biwott has already broken the WBU outdoor record in the 800-meters twice this spring, and Saturday she took another two seconds off with a time of 2:08.78, finishing in second place. >>Read More
NATION EARNS MVA HONORS AT CONFERENCE MEET
Shawnee, Okla.---Latanya Nation of Wayland Baptist won Most Valuable Female Athlete honors at the 2008 Sooner Athletic Conference Track & Field Championships hosted Saturday by Oklahoma Baptist University. Nation becomes the fifth straight Pioneer woman to win MVA honors.
The runner-up in the 2008 NAIA Indoor Heptathlon, Nation, a freshman from Jamaica, scored points in seven different events, posting outdoor qualifying marks in three. She won the 100 meter hurdles in a qualifying time of 14.91, captured the long jump crown with a qualifying jump of 5.64 meters, and bettered the field in the discus with a throw of 41.26 meters. >>Read More
PIONEERS READY FOR SAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Wayland Baptist track and field team will be competing in the Sooner Athletic Championships Saturday at Oklahoma Baptist University. The day-long event is scheduled to start with field events at 10 a.m.
According to Pioneer coach Brian Whitlock, OBU is favored to win both the men’s and women’s titles.
“They just have so many more bodies than we do,” says Whitlock. “Their women have won 11 straight. We should be able to keep it close, but it will be awfully tough to upset them.” >>Read More
BIWOTT SETS NEW MARK AT RED RAIDER OPEN
Wayland Baptist broke one school record, tied another, added one new national track qualifier and improved several qualifying times at the Red Raider Open in Lubbock on Saturday.
Freshman Purity Biwott broke her own school record in the 800 meters, running a 2:10.39 to finish in second place. Biwott had just made the record her own back on April 2 at the Texas Relays when she ran a 2:11.35. >>Read More

Austin, Tex.---Middle-distance runners Purity Biwott and Erin Britton both set a new Wayland Baptist record in the 800-meter run during the first day of competition at the Texas Relays on Wednesday. Johnson City, Tenn.---For the second straight year, the NAIA Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship came down to the wire. This year, however, it was the Pioneer women that came out on top with a one point win over Azusa Pacific University, 71-70.
Down 70-63 with only the 4x400-meter relay remaining, the Pioneer team of Keliesha Ross, Caroline Oladipo, Demetrice Gilliam and Kimberly Smith ran a 3:48.95 to finish second and register the needed eight points for the national title.
