Dr. Samantha Murray
Breaking Ground in Online Learning
Dr. Samantha Murray, a self-professed native of North Carolina, was raised in Charlotte, NC, Palestine, TX and El Dorado, AR where she graduated from high school. She later graduated from Harding University in Searcy, AR with a degree in Mathematics, and then earned her M.B.A. from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She was awarded her Ph.D. in Strategic Management/Organization Theory with a minor in Marketing and Quantitative Analysis from Mississippi State.
Murray began her time at Wayland Baptist University in July of 2016 when the School of Business began a Doctor of Management program and hired her to teach in the new online program.
The thing Murray loves best about Wayland is the people.
“The School of Business has sweet, Christian people that are a joy to work with,” Murray said. “My students are hardworking and a pleasure to teach.”
Murray mainly teaches online doctoral students, teaching them how to “read, understand, and critically assess empirical and conceptual research.”
“My favorite part of teaching is the discussions that I have with my students, which stretch how they think and change their paradigms.”
Murray’s husband Jon is also in higher education, working as a Track and Cross Country coach for Texas Tech University. In addition to being a professor and coach’s wife, Murray also holds the job titles of soccer mom, dance mom, baseball mom, basketball mom and track mom. She has also served as President of two PTA boards in the Frenship school district. She and her husband have five children, ages 9-15. They are members at Greenlawn Church of Christ in Lubbock. In her spare time, Murray enjoys decorating cakes.
