Jackson Harbison, a junior Business major from Shallowater, almost didn’t become a fourth generation Pioneer. When he was younger he felt the call to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a minister, but later thought that the funeral business might be a good fit for him.

He worked for a time at Abell Funeral Home in Abernathy and was planning to head to mortuary school, until he arrived on campus.

On Discovering Wayland...

“I was invited to an academic day, so we came just to ask some questions. When we got back in the car, my parents and I looked at each other and said, ‘this is where we need to be.”

On academic rigor…

Jackson believes that the business education he’s receiving at Wayland will help him when he begins to work full-time in the funeral industry and hopes to someday run his own funeral home.

On the Wayland family…

“The fellowship you get to have [through WBU] means so much. It’s a camaraderie and a shared love because of the special place that it is.”
