Paul Harkey

Sing to the King

Paul Harkey

Paul Harkey earned his bachelor’s degree in church music from Wayland Baptist University in 2003. A native of Plainview, Harkey knew he wanted to study music, but after a meeting with Dr. Scott Herrington during his sophomore year, he switched from trumpet to voice.

After graduation, Harkey served as a worship pastor and then realized his “true calling” was in concert ministry. Fulfilling a dream God gave him when he was 15 years old. Paul joined the Christian quartet The Anchormen. It was there that he met his wife, Jennifer, whom he married in 2010. Paul now sings bass for Ernie Haase & Signature Sound. He lives outside of Nashville with his wife and two children.

Paul says that the music department at Wayland prepared him “in every way” for his current career, “not just academically, but spiritually.” Harkey also insists that Wayland “had such a major role in making [him] the person [he] is today.” When asked what advice he has for graduating seniors and recent alumni, Paul responded: “Figure out what you love to do. Do it with all your heart and you’ll never work. Seek God in everything. He knows what you desire. No matter how crazy life’s road may be, always know He’s got you right where you are supposed to be. You are there for a reason and you might not figure out why until later.”

Among Paul’s favorite memories while at Wayland are late-night flag football games and Koinonia; he adds that he made many friendships here “that are still going strong today.”
