Excellence Down to a Science

CLASS OF 2016

Lauryn Bruggink

Lauryn Bruggink graduated from Wayland in May of 2016 with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. She is from Oak Creek, Colorado. A member of the Wayland women’s wrestling team and an active participant in service on campus, Lauryn also immersed herself in the highly regarded science program.

ON THE ACADEMIC RIGOR

“My classes at Wayland were challenging, and as a result I was very well prepared. For example, my Anatomy and Physiology class was taught at a medical-school level, because for the students in that class, that is their goal.”

ON EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING

“At Wayland, there's an opportunity to do undergraduate research, and it's our own original research. I spent time observing at the hospital in Plainview, as well as observing physical therapists in the Plainview school district. If I had gone to a larger school, I may not have had this real-world learning ”

ON THE CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

“In science classes, we examined different views that the world has on faith and science. These discussions helped us form a firmer foundation for what we believe. But very importantly, they also helped to open our minds, so we can collaborate effectively with other scientists who might not share our point of view.”

ON FEELING PREPARED

“I learned so much at Wayland. The quality education I received, my involvement on campus – Wayland gave me the confidence to move forward. I feel fully prepared for the future and what's ahead of me. I'm not nervous at all. I'm excited!”
