Terra Giving Back to his Alma Mater
CLASS OF 2011 & 2012
Joao Marcos “Johnny” Terra earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and an MBA (emphasis in accounting) from Wayland in 2011 and 2012, respectively. He also played Men’s Basketball for Wayland and was team captain for two years.
A native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Terra now works as a Bank Officer - Senior Accountant at Happy State Bank in Amarillo, TX and holds CPA (Certified Public Accountant) and a CISA (Certified Information System Auditor) certification.
“At Happy State Bank, I am responsible for not only financial and regulatory reporting but for consistently displaying my ability to drive out inefficiencies through process improvement and to assist in the maintenance and development of financial systems and accounting procedures.”
Terra credits Wayland for preparing him academically and spiritually.
“I cannot imagine being where I am at right now. I graduated with no debt and with enough hours to sit for the CPA exam – one of the toughest tasks I have ever done in my life but also one of the most rewarding ones for sure – and I became a strong Christian husband to lead my family closer to God. My goals are to become the best that I can be at anything I do, because without that, I would be wasting God’s given talents and blessings.”
Terra also adds that his first day at Wayland will be in his memories forever.
“I saw snow for the 1st time in my life. I didn’t have a heavy jacket to keep me warm but my basketball head coach gave me one (I still have it).”
Terra and his wife Aubrey, who played basketball for Wayland’s Flying Queens, are currently donating to their WBU Endowed Scholarship, the Johnny and Aubrey Terra International Student Endowed Scholarship, that will give international students the chance to attend Wayland.
