Masks Return Once Again

COVID-19 cases have been on the rise in the United States, hitting almost one million cases in one week. The new variant, Omicron, has caused schools across America to revert back to online learning.

Although Wayland is having face-to-face classes, new protocols are back in action. On January 9th, 2022, Dr. Claude Lusk, Sr. Vice President of Operations and Student Life, sent an email out to all of the Plainview students regarding the Spring 2022 semester.

“Effective Monday, January 10, Wayland will again require masking for all employees and students in all indoor locations and across all campuses,” Lusk said. “Wayland’s goals related to the pandemic remain the same – to protect our employees and students and to remain operational and able to effectively deliver and receive our educational product.”

Wayland has been notifying all students and staff of every change in the COVID protocol. As waves have hit their highs and lows, this virus is anything but gone.

“Throughout the pandemic, we have closely monitored national, state, and local conditions across all campus locations and made changes as needed,” Lusk said. “Statistically and in the opinion of many medical authorities, it seems clear today that the Covid surge being seen in other parts of America is now coming to the communities Wayland serves.”

Wayland offered free vaccinations/testing on January 14th, 2022, through the Office of Health Services. It took place at The Laney between 9 AM to 4 PM and over 300 individuals were tested.
