COURSE NO. AND TITLE: MATH 1304 (SV01) - College Algebra
Description:This course develops skills in rational expressions, radicals, complex numbers, graphs, second-degree equations in one or two variables, exponential and logarithmic functions, conic sections, sequences, series, and the Binomial Theorem.
Text:Intermediate Algebra for College Students, 8th edition, Allen R. Angel, Prentice Hall; ISBN# 978-0-321-62091-0
Supplies:textbook, scientific or graphing calculator, pencil, paper
Prerequisite: Two years of high school algebra or MATH 1300
Placement: This class is for students who do not qualify (or have need) for Calculus or Trigonometry, but who have had two years of algebra with a grade of B or above.
Class Policies
Attendance:All students are expected to attend all class sessions and are responsible for knowing the material covered. No quizzes or exams can be made up unless arrangements PRIOR to the absence have been made. Any student missing more than 25% of the class will FAIL the class. (No more than three absences).
Academic Honesty: Disciplinary action for academic misconduct is the responsibility of the faculty member assigned to this course. The faculty member is charged with assessing the gravity of any case of academic dishonesty, and with giving sanctions to any student involved.
Homework: Homework is assigned for each lesson completed in class. You may work together, but do not copy. The homework is not collected as part of your grade but it will prepare you for the type of questions you will have on your test. At the beginning of the next class you may ask any questions from the homework that you had difficulty with the previous week.
Quizzes: Each week we do not have a test we will have a quiz on content covered in the current chapter. The four highest quiz grades of the seven quizzes given will count as one exam grade in your final class grade.
Exams: During the semester there will be 3 exams. The content covered by each exam will be explicitly discussed in class.
