academy of fine arts registering for fall

PLAINVIEW -- Registration for the fall 2008 semester of the Wayland Academy of Fine Arts will be Tuesday, August 19 from 4-7 p.m. in the Harral Fine Arts Center. Classes will begin Sept. 2. The AFA will offer lessons and classes in piano, guitar, percussion, art, voice, and other instruments as needed.

“Wayland is proud to be able to offer lessons and classes for the community at reasonable rates with highly qualified teachers; it is an honor to teach the talented students of Plainview and the Wayland student teachers and faculty grow immensely from the collaboration as well,” said Dr. Ann Stutes, dean of the School of Music.

The Children’s Chorus of Plainview will hold auditions for new members (ages 8-12) during the registration session for the fourth season of the honors chorus. Licensed instructors will present the second season of the Music Together program that is group instruction for children birth to 6 years. This semester’s session will feature the music from the Bongos curriculum and all families will receive CDs and a music book for continued home development.

Vocal technique classes for junior high and high school students will focus on proper singing technique and repertoire development. The fall curriculum will cover classical song repertoire, opera selections and sacred songs.  Kindermusik classes will be available for returning students.
