PLAINVIEW -- Wayland Baptist University’s Association of Former Students will honor Dallas-area dentist Dr. Rosemary Ribera Pelphrey with the Distinguished Young Alumni Award for 2017 at the homecoming celebration Sept. 22-23. The award will be presented as part of the homecoming banquet on Friday, Sept. 22 at 5:30 p.m.

Dr. Pelphrey came to Wayland from Canyon, bringing dreams of becoming a dentist. The daughter of Laura Ribera and Steve Ribera, Rosemary earned her Bachelor of Science degree in molecular biology in May 2011. While at Wayland, she was involved in Baptist Student Ministries, was a President’s Ambassador and a resident assistant at Owen Hall.

She then enrolled at Baylor College of Dentistry and earned her Doctor of Dental Science degree in May 2015. Shortly after graduation, Pelphrey met her future husband, Plainview native and Marine veteran Micah Pelphrey, and the two married in August 2016. They live in Richardson, a suburb of Dallas, and Micah works for a sheet metal fabrication company in Garland.

Dr. Pelphrey works part-time for Ideal Smiles of McKinney, a group dental practice, and part-time for a mobile dentistry company, Elite Mobile Dental, which caters heavily to an elderly clientele. She plans to open her own dental practice in the near future.

During her undergraduate study, Dr. Pelphrey became involved in mission work, traveling to Alaska and Brazil as well as doing local projects. In graduate school, she continued active work in her church and led a Bible study for her classmates. She also continued dental missions, traveling to Brazil and Guatemala.

“Rosemary was a model student while at Wayland, highly involved and an academic shining star,” said Teresa Young, Director of Alumni Relations. “She has continued to be loyal to her alma mater and a great example to current students since graduation. We’re thrilled to be able to honor her with the young alumni award.”
