Wayland Hosts High School Band Competition


PLAINVIEW -- For the third straight year, the School of Music and Pioneer Band at Wayland Baptist University hosted the UIL 1A-4A Concert and Sight-Reading Contest on April 18-19. The contest featured 27 bands competing from Region 16.

Bands receiving Sweepstakes honors for having first division rankings in marching, concert, and sight-reading contests were Abernathy, Lockney, Tahoka, Farwell, Muleshoe, Littlefield, Idalou, Shallowater Varsity, Roosevelt, Seminole, and Denver City.

Those receiving a first division ranking in concert and sight-reading were Levelland Concert Band, Levelland Varsity, and Shallowater Concert Band.

O’Donnell High school:  2 in Concert and 3 in Sight-Reading
Petersburg High school:  1 in Concert and 2 in Sight-Reading
Anton High school:  3 in Concert and 2 in Sight-Reading
Spur High school:  3 in Concert and 2 in Sight-Reading

In 2A
Floydada High school:  2 in Concert and 1 in Sight-Reading
Morton High school:  3 in Concert and 4 in Sight-Reading
Smyer High school:  2 in Concert and 1 in Sight-Reading
Sudan High school:  1 in Concert and 2 in Sight-Reading
Plains High school:  2 in Concert and 2 in Sight-Reading
Ralls High school:  1 in Concert and 3 in Sight-Reading

In 3A
Slaton High school:  1 in Concert and 2 in Sight-Reading

In 4A
Estacado High School: 2 in Concert and 2 in Sight-Reading.
