Wayland Offices Operating Under Summer Schedule
Wayland Baptist University will operate under a new four-day work week schedule this summer, beginning May 22 and ending July 21. Offices will be open from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Wayland administration adopted the new work schedule after discussions with campus leaders throughout the Wayland system, looking for ways to cut energy consumption and cost. Wayland’s work week is based on a 37 ¾ hour schedule. The new four-day schedule will not impact employee compensation. The new schedule will be implemented at all 13 Wayland campus locations.
The only exception to the schedule will be on the Plainview campus the week of June 19-23. An early registration event is scheduled on Friday, June 23, requiring offices to be open and manned.
In an email to employees, Wayland President Dr. Bobby Hall explained that the administration has been considering a move like this for several years. This summer’s change will act as a trial period to determine if the move had the desired effects.
Not only are administrators hoping to cut energy consumption and save on energy costs, but also they are hoping employees will see the schedule as beneficial and enjoyable with extended summer weekends. At the end of the trial period, the results will be evaluated to determine whether or not this is a viable summer option.
Wayland offices are traditionally open 8:15 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:15 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Friday, with varying schedules at the extension campuses.
