School of Music to Hold Achievement Award Concert

PLAINVIEW – The School of Music will hold its Music Achievement Award concert, featuring the six first-place winners from the annual awards competition, at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 23 in Harral Memorial Auditorium. Admission to the concert is free and open to the public.

Freshman and sophomore students competed against each other, while juniors and seniors competed in an upperclassman division. Students competed in vocal, instrumental and musical composition categories, featuring solo performance on band instruments, guitar and piano. Vocalists also competed in solo competition. WBU faculty members Dr. Joe Vandiver, director of instrumental studies, Dr. Brian Kuhnert, director of vocal studies, and Dr. Scott Strovas, professor of music history, judged the competitions.

Tuesday’s concert will serve as a final competition for the six individual winners to determine the overall champion who will represent the School of Music as the Research and Performance Champion of 2018. The champion will present to the student body during chapel on April 25 at 11 a.m.
