PLAINVIEW – The School of Music at Wayland Baptist University is participating in a special production of Handel’s “Messiah” at 8 p.m. on Dec. 5 at the First United Methodist Church in Plainview. The production will follow the local Christmas parade sponsored by Plainview’s Chamber of Commerce.

The Wayland choirs are teaming up with the Plainview Civic Music Association to present the program. Wayland’s choirs, the Plainview Chorale, and community guests will make up a combined choir of approximately 60 voices. The choir will be accompanied by an orchestra.

Conducted by Dr. Steve Weber, professor of choral education and director of choirs at Wayland, the performance will include soloists Cathy Weber, soprano, Tiffany Russell, alto, Eric Barry, Tenor and Dr. Brian Kuhnert, bass.

The concert is open to the public. The cost of admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Maximum charge for admission is $30 for families of four or more members. Tickets will be available at the door.

The joint production of Handel’s “Messiah” will take the place of the School of Music’s traditional American Family Christmas production.
