Lubbock Lights Recognizes Morales Family

LUBBOCK – Tickets are on sale now for the Wayland Lubbock Lights Gala scholarship banquet. The university holds the event each year to recognize individuals who have been influential to the success of the community and university, as well as to raise money for scholarships. This year, the university will recognize Marciano and Martha Morales.

The 13th annual Gala is set for April 30 at the Overton Hotel and Conference Center. A silent auction starts at 6 p.m. with dinner and program at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $125 and all proceeds benefit the endowed scholarship for Latino students.

The Morales family has been a strong supporter of Wayland and the Lubbock community through their business, Caprock Home Health, the largest Hispanic-owned health agency in Texas. The Moraleses have formed the Caprock Foundation through which they give back to the community. One of the foundation’s main areas of focus is providing scholarships for young people to attend college.

Director of Development Bobby McCloud said Wayland greatly appreciates the support the Morales family has shown the university throughout the years.

“They are longtime supporters of our Lubbock campus, donating through their company to our gala and the annual golf tournament,” McCloud said. “They are leaders in the community and are very generous with their time and money.”

Not only has the couple supported Wayland throughout the years, but their son, Marciano Jr., also earned his Master of Business Administration degree at Wayland. Marciano and Martha have also served on several community boards and volunteered at other agencies, including Meals on Wheels, UMC Children’s Network, Chamber of Commerce, the LP&L Board and more.

While working with the Chamber of Commerce, Marciano was key in bridging the gap between Lubbock’s Hispanic businesses and the Chamber, which merged in 2008.

“Marciano and Martha are really involved in the community and we are honored to have them as our honorees for this year’s gala,” McCloud said.

Tickets to the event may be purchased by contacting McCloud at 806-785-9285 or by email at bobby.mccloud@wbu.edu.
