October 4, 2018
Randy Kaufman, a partner in the Plainview accounting firm Lewis, Kaufman, Reid. Stukey, Gattis and Company, will be honored as one of Wayland Baptist University’s Distinguished Alumni Award winners at the homecoming banquet on Friday, October 26.
Kaufman earned his associate’s degree from Hesston College in Hesston, Kan., in 1979 and his bachelor’s degree at WBU in accounting in 1991, returning to school while he worked at the accounting firm. He became a CPA in 1991 and a partner in 1997 and is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Texas Society of CPAs. He has spent a career in individual and business tax planning and preparation, working with everyone from farmers and manufacturers to non-profit organizations and churches.
A resident of Plainview since marrying wife Carol in 1979, Kaufman has been active in community service for many decades. He is a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Wayland Board of Trustees, chair of the finance committee. He formerly served on the board of Plainview Christian Academy, the Plainview Chamber of Commerce, Salvation Army and the YMCA and was past president of the Noon Optimist Club. He was also a budget committee member of the Plainview Area United Way and has been a longtime supporter. A member of the Plainview Camp of Gideons International, Kaufman is a longtime member of First Baptist Church, where he teaches Sunday school, is a deacon, sings in the choir and has served on many committees.
Randy and Carol have three married daughters and eight grandchildren.
“We have some truly amazing alumni at Wayland, and Randy Kaufman is a great example of someone who has given back to his alma mater through service and support since he completed his degree,” said Teresa Young, alumni director. “He has even taught adjunctly for Wayland and enjoys staying connected to his university. Randy is a fitting choice for this award.”
The dinner banquet will feature a barbecue meal from Weekends. Tickets are $15 and require advance reservations by October 19 by calling Young at (806) 291-3600.
