Graduation Set for May 11
May 6, 2019
PLAINVIEW – Approximately 120 students are scheduled to participate in commencement ceremonies at Wayland Baptist University’s Plainview campus on Saturday, May 11. The ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. in Harral Memorial Auditorium.
Wayland’s spring graduation is typically held in Hutcherson Center to accommodate larger crowds, but an air conditioning failure has prompted the change of venue. With larger crowds expected for the event, overflow rooms with audio and video will be available.
The student address will be given by Sean Bohnet of Sherman. Bohnet is graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music. Bohnet will continue his education in pursuit of a master’s degree at University of Idaho.
Three graduates will be recognized as graduating from the honors program. The honors program is for students who want to go above and beyond the general curriculum by taking additional coursework focused on research. Holli Foster, of Keller, will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts with Honors degree. Leigh Ann DeMerritt and Makayla Nicholson will graduate with Bachelor of Science with Honors degrees.
Dr. Paul Sadler will be awarded Emeritus Professor of Religion status as culmination of his 29 years of service to Wayland. Sadler has served primarily in the School of Religion and Philosophy as professor and dean of the school. He is retiring at the end of the semester from his current position as Director of Church Services.
Dr. Otto B. Schacht will also be recognized as Emeritus Professor of Business. Schacht retired in 2018 from the School of Business where he served for 20 years as professor and dean. Schacht and Sadler, along with Dr. Lewis Lee from Wayland’s San Antonio campus, were granted emeritus status by the Board of Trustees at the Board’s spring meeting on April 25.
For guests who are unable to attend graduation, the commencement ceremony will be
live-streamed on the official Wayland Baptist University Facebook page.
