Silent Auction Highlights Scholarship Concert

PLAINVIEW – The Friends of Music organization at Wayland Baptist University will hold its annual scholarship concert at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 12, with proceeds from ticket prices benefitting music scholarships. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $5 for students.
The Friends of Music will also distribute approximately $20,000 in scholarships for next semester. The group has also established three fully endowed scholarships and is working on a fourth in honor of Jeannine Greene.
Along with the concert, the Friends of Music are organizing a silent auction that will take place in the Miller Recital Hall beginning at 6 p.m. Patrons may bid on auction items prior to the concert. The auction will remain open for 20 minutes following the concert.
The auction will feature items such as a family photography session by Don’s Photography, steak dinner with Wayland President Dr. Bobby Hall and his wife Laurie, a night at the President’s House bed and breakfast, gift cards from Broadway Brew, United and Amigos, and donated artwork from Joe Provence and Carolyn Warrick.
The concert will feature Wayland’s jazz ensembles lead by Dr. Joe Vandiver, Dr. Scott Strovas and Rev. David Hawkins. The music selections will be a blend of traditional standards and contemporary hits, and will include some vocal jazz. The concert will be high-energy, family friendly event.
