Montgomery Named Director of Bands
PLAINVIEW – The School of Music at Wayland Baptist University has announced the hiring of Dr. Ron Montgomery as the new Director of Bands. Montgomery will replace Dr. Carl Rowles who resigned at the end of the spring semester.
Dean of the School of Music Dr. Ann Stutes said the School and its faculty are excited to bring Dr. Montgomery on board.
“Dr. Montgomery brings a fresh vision of music education to our area, backed by a distinguished career in higher education and teaching in the public schools,” Stutes said.
Montgomery earned his doctorate at the University of Arizona. He holds a master’s degree from the University of Kansas and a bachelor’s degree from Roberts Wesleyan College. His collegiate teaching experience includes serving as Director of Music Studies at Missouri Valley College, Director of Wind Ensemble at Missouri Southern State University, and Director of Instrumental Activities at Xavier University, University of Northwestern and Eastern Nazarene College. He has also taught at the public school level at Lomax Middle School in Houston as well as serving as head band director in the Warren Independent School District.
Dr. Montgomery will join the full-time instrumental faculty that includes Dr. Sandra Mosteller (woodwinds and world music), Dr. Joe Vandiver (high brass and jazz) and Dr. Anthony King (athletic bands and percussion).
