Wayland has added a new blog to the website, focusing on the discussion of trends in education and how they affect the university. The new blog is operated by the Office of Communications.

PLAINVIEW – Wayland Baptist University will be unveiling a new website tentatively scheduled for a Feb. 14 launch. The new site, which has taken more than 18 months to build, will be a significant upgrade from the existing site.

Charlotte Schumacher, director of web services at Wayland, said the new site is a much-needed change.

“It will be more interactive and is optimized for mobile devices,” she said. “We will be working diligently to keep the content updated.”

The new design will feature links to the university’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter feeds, as well as the addition of a new blog, “Speaking of Wayland.” The blog will be operated by the Office of Communications and housed on the News & Events page.

“We were looking for a way to give the university more of a voice and a little personality,” said Jonathan Petty, Wayland’s director of communications. “Unfortunately, readers will be stuck with my voice and personality for the time being, but we hope to diversify as we continue to develop the blog.”

Petty said the goal of the blog is to discuss trends and topics in education and how they will directly affect Wayland. The format will also be used to tell more about what Wayland faculty, staff and students are doing within the scope of education. Petty said he hopes to build a good group of contributing faculty and staff who will provide regular content on topics concerning their areas of expertise. He also hopes the public will use the space to ask questions about topics that interest them.

Other new features for the website include a robust events calendar that will keep people up to date on events and important dates to remember, such as music concerts, theatrical performances, registration dates and special events. There are also student and alumni stories that give a brief glimpse into what the Wayland family is doing around the world.

The new site will be housed at the existing www.wbu.edu and should go live in mid February.
