Wayland sets date for Inauguration
PLAINVIEW – Wayland Baptist University will hold a Presidential Inauguration and Investiture ceremony on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, officially installing Bobby Hall, Ed.D., as the school’s 13th president. The Investiture ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. in Harral Memorial Auditorium.
Still in the planning stages, several events will accompany the Investiture throughout the week. Preliminary plans call for a student showcase where students will compete for a scholarship by displaying their original works such as songs, artwork, written word or other creative outlets, celebrating the inauguration. A university-wide open house is also scheduled for Jan. 25. Offices and academic schools will be open from 8:30-10:15 a.m. as well as 2-4 p.m. Classes will be cancelled for the day allowing faculty and students to take part in other activities. The committee is also planning an afternoon reception from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
As part of the inauguration week, faculty and staff at Wayland’s various locations around the country are also being encouraged to take part in volunteer work in their communities. One of Dr. Hall’s points of emphasis includes connecting the university more closely with the communities it serves.
Dr. Hall was named president by the Board of Trustees effective July 1 and is the first alumnus to hold the position. He has been associated with the university for more than 30 years, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from Wayland in 1982 and a master’s degree in 1985. He holds a doctorate from Texas Tech University.
During his time at Wayland, Dr. Hall has served in many capacities, including assistant executive vice president, director of institutional research and effectiveness, director of graduate services, executive director of university relations, assistant to the president for institutional advancement, director of public relations, and director of career planning and placement. Prior to being named president he was the university’s executive vice president and provost, a position he held since 2008. He has also served as a faculty member in the School of Business.
Dr. Hall and his wife Laurie have a daughter, Alex, who graduated from Wayland, and a son, Lucas.
More information on the inauguration and investiture will be made available as it becomes finalized.
