PLAINVIEW – In a first for the Wayland Baptist University School of Music, Dr. Anthony King will present a percussion recital, accompanied by Dr. Kennith Freeman at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6, in Harral Memorial Auditorium. This is the first collaboration for these faculty members.
Admission to the concert is free and open to the public.
Dr. King, associate director of bands, will perform solo repertoire on both the marimba and snare drum. Dr. Freeman, assistant professor of collaborative piano, will accompany on the piano.
The recital will also feature the world premiere of “Concerto in E Major for Guitar and Strings” by classical era composer Luigi Boccherini and arranged for marimba and piano by Gaspar Casado.
“Dr. Freeman and I are excited to begin our collaborative work by presenting this world premiere, and hope to so on many more occasions,” said King, who is also an arranger of music for percussion instruments.
Also featured on the program will be movements from two different concerti for marimba and strings, one written in 2001 by Michael Burrit and the other written in 2005 by Emmanuel Sèjournè.
