American Family Christmas Concert is Friday
PLAINVIEW – Wayland Baptist University’s School of Music will present the American Family Christmas concert at 7 p.m. in Harral Memorial Auditorium on Friday.
The family Christmas concert is an annual presentation by the School of Music and this year’s presentation will feature the Wayland Symphonic Band, International Choir, and Wayland Singers Chorus. The audience will also join in to sing Christmas carols throughout the concert.
Admission to the concert is free and open to the public.
The combined choirs and band will open the concert with a special prelude, adapted by Dr. Steve Weber, Wayland’s Director of Choirs. Following a group sing-a-long, the Symphonic Band, Directed by Dr. Carl Rowles, will perform three pieces. Wayland Singers Chorus will then perform “All is Well,” “Jazz Gloria,” “A Star Carol,” and “African Alleluia.”
The International Choir will perform “Hodie Christus Natus Est” by Francis Poulenc, along with “Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming.” The choir set will conclude with “What Sweeter Music,” the Christmas Classic “Jingle Bells” led by student conductor Kaileigh Boas, and “The First Noel.”
The audience will join in on “Angels We Have Heard on High,” “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” and “Silent Night” throughout the concert.
The concert will conclude with the Wayland choirs and the band joining for “Joy to the World.”
