Wayland on alert after threat

PLAINVIEW – Wayland Baptist University administrators issued a notification to WBU faculty, staff and students at approximately 4:50 p.m. on Monday that a threat of violence had been made against unspecified members of the Wayland community.

Administrators, the Wayland Police Department and the Plainview Police Department are taking the necessary steps to identify and minimize any possible threat. There is no current evidence that this was anything more than an idle threat. A criminal trespass order has been placed against the individual responsible.

Wayland classes and offices will function under normal operating hours and procedures. The Wayland and Plainview police departments will continue to monitor the situation.

Further notifications will be issued as necessary.

There is no further information at this time.
