Miss Wayland pageant set for Saturday

PLAINVIEW – Wayland Baptist University will hold the 43rd annual Miss Wayland Pageant at 7 p.m. Saturday in Harral Memorial Auditorium. Ten young ladies will compete for the crown in talent, evening gown and interview categories with “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” as the evening’s theme.

General admission is $3.

Miss Wayland 2015 Kelsi Crawford will host the event. Crawford claimed the crown last November and has served as Miss Wayland for the past year. Saturday’s pageant will include an opening number choreographed by Crawford as well as her final Miss Wayland performance.

Saturday’s contestants are:

Jordan Sisson. Representing the School of Fine Arts, Sisson is a junior, theatre education major from Borger.

Shelby Self is a sophomore, elementary education major from Jayton. She is representing the Marching Pioneers.

Heather Kettle is a sophomore, psychology major from Beaumont. She is representing the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Sarah Kelly is a senior, molecular biology major from Stinnett. She is representing the American Chemical Society.

Erica Kear is a sophomore from Perryton, majoring in elementary education and representing the Praise Ensemble.

Mariya Essani is a senior, life science education major. Born in Russia, Essani now calls Plainview home. She is representing Kerygma.

Zoe Cantrell is majoring in all level music education. She is a sophomore from Gruver and is representing Kappa Kappa Psi.

Rebecca Mince is a sophomore, elementary education major from Big Spring. She is sponsored by Student Senate.

Emily Brown is representing the Baptist Student Ministries. She is a junior, fitness management major from Aurora, Colo.

Clara Jewell Baxter is a junior, graphic design major from Grand Prairie. She is representing Fleming-Mays Tower dormitory.
Wayland alum John Trischitti and his wife Diana will emcee the event. Former Miss Wayland's Babs Tatum Lombard (1973), Amy Williamson Wilcox (1975) and Meredith Runyan Cain (1994) will serve as judges along with Emeritus Director of Alumni Joe Provence, who also coordinated the pageant during his time at Wayland.
