Wayland to hold 24-hour giving blitz for Annual Fund

August 28, 2015

PLAINVIEW – Wayland Baptist University’s Office of Annual Giving will host the second annual BIG GIVE giving blitz on Monday, Aug. 31, aiming to raise $107,000 in honor of the 107th anniversary of the university’s charter on that exact day in 1908.

The BIG GIVE runs from 12:01 a.m. on Monday through midnight and is primarily a social media and email campaign aimed at boosting the school’s Annual Fund. This year’s effort is focusing on honoring the excellent faculty and staff that have impacted students both past and present.

“Throughout Wayland’s history, there have been so many amazing faculty members who have poured into the lives of students, sharing not only their knowledge and wisdom but also caring and investing in them personally. It’s one of my favorite things about our university,” said Teresa Young, Director of Annual Fund. “This one-day blitz is a great way to both impact current students while giving a nod of appreciation to folks who have shaped us as alumni.”

During the blitz, alumni, employees and friends are encouraged to issue challenges to others to give, and to share their own testimonials about their Wayland experiences on the social media platforms.

“It was so fun last year to see our alumni getting involved, many for the first time, and sharing heartfelt stories of their time here. We enjoyed seeing them get excited about ensuring that those same experiences are continued with today’s students,” Young said.
Wayland’s Facebook page has a link to the event page titled The BIG GIVE. Messages and challenges can be posted there, and a link to the donation page will be featured. The Facebook page will also keep a running total of the progress of the campaign toward its $107,000 goal. Gifts may be made online via credit or debit card, by check at the Advancement Offices (located in the Trinity Building at 9th and Utica streets) or by phone with a credit card (call 291-3425 or 239-8979).
