Wayland to host Saw You at the Pole rally
September 22, 2014
PLAINVIEW -- Wayland Baptist University will host a special Saw You at the Pole rally at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening in Harral Memorial Auditorium on the Wayland campus.
The rally is in conjunction with the national See You at the Pole prayer emphasis that will take place Wednesday morning at public and private prep schools, colleges and universities. SYATP takes place the fourth Wednesday of September every year as Christian students gather early in the morning at the flagpole of their school for a time of prayer and worship. The national event began in 1990.
Hosted by WBU’s Baptist Students Ministries, Saw You at the Pole brings area youth together for an evening worship service to emphasize the importance of continued prayer at school.
“We don’t just stop praying after that one time around the flagpole,” said Angela Lichtie, assistant BSM director at Wayland. “We are encouraging each other to pray tomorrow, and the next day, and the next …”
Lichtie said youth from Plainview and the surrounding communities are invited to attend, and several churches in the area bring their youth groups to the event each year.
Wednesday’s guest speaker will be Dr. Justin Lawrence, Assistant Professor of Justice and Public Administration at Wayland. The Christian band Climbing Blind will lead the worship. The rally will include student testimonies, prayer and Bible teaching.
The event is open to any who would like to attend.
