WBU School of Music hosts sing-a-thon
September 30, 2014
PLAINVIEW – The Wayland Baptist University School of Music is hosting a 12-hour sing-a-thon on Friday, beginning at noon in hopes of raising funds to attend the TEXOMA Region National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition and conference in Kingwood.
The sing-a-thon will be held in Pete’s Place, the basement of the McClung University Center. A donation box will be set up to collect money to help with travel expenses for the conference.
The NATS conference is also a competition for vocalists. Approximately 12 Wayland students will be competing this year. The final competitive line-up will not be set until shortly before the sing-a-thon begins on Friday. Dr. Kimberly Brown, organizer of the event and Associate Professor of Vocal Studies, said a number of students are interested in the competition and they will audition for her and Dr. Brian Kuhnert, Assistant Professor of Voice and Opera/Musical Theatre, Friday morning. Kuhnert and Brown will each select six students to enter into the contest.
Those students selected to compete at NATS will perform from 6-8 p.m. during the sing-a-thon as a contest preview.
Donations of any size are appreciated and will go directly to travel expenses for the conference. Those wishing to donate who cannot attend the sing-a-thon may contact Linda Grover in the School of Music at 806-291-1076.
