Super Bowl champ to visit Wayland Baptist University

September 6, 2013

PLAINVIEW – Super Bowl XLIV was billed as an epic contest between two of the top quarterbacks in the NFL as Peyton Manning and his Indianapolis Colts faced off against Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints. But it was the play of Chris Reis that turned the tide for the Saints.

In what many assumed to be a shootout between the two quarterbacks, the game turned when New Orleans coach Sean Payton called for an onside kick to open the second half. The Saints recovered the ball, giving them the momentum they needed to turn a 10-7 halftime deficit into a 31-17 Super Bowl win.

Reis was the special teamer who recovered the kick for the Saints; undoubtedly a defining moment in his life. As great as that moment was for Reis, it paled in comparison to the day his father, Mike, called him to say he had entered into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

On Wednesday, September 11, Chris and Mike Reis will be at Wayland Baptist University to share their tale of the redemptive power of God, saving them from a self-destructive lifestyle. Their story is chronicled in the book “Recovery of a Lifetime.”

The public is invited to hear the story of Chris and Mike Reis at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in Harral Memorial Auditorium. Admission is free.

Growing up in a broken home, Chris accepted Christ while in high school. As a standout at Georgia Tech University, his faith grew through the influence of his coach and the team chaplain. During this time, Mike was searching for something to fill the void in his life, giving in to a sinful lifestyle. Through his son’s influence and an invitation to an event hosted by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, his life was changed. Now Chris and Mike share their story of how God led them to the “Recovery of a Lifetime.”
