WBU Hosts Texas Tech Early Music Ensemble

February 21, 2012

PLAINVIEW – The Wayland Baptist University School of Music will host the Texas Tech University Early Music Ensemble on Monday, Feb. 27, at 7:30 p.m. The Ensemble will perform “Fair Sweet Lady: Songs of Love and Medieval Renaissance France.”

The program will feature a mix of voices and early instruments, including the medieval fiddle, harp, hurdy-gurdy and viola da gamba, with repertoire ranging from solo songs to choral chansons. The ensemble will perform a number of love songs from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance.

The Texas Tech University Early Music Ensemble was founded by director Angela Mariani in 2001 in order to create a forum for Texas Tech School of Music students to explore medieval and Renaissance music through the medium of performance. The experience of working with period instruments and investigating the performance processes of early western music is enjoyable, illuminating and also deepens the understanding historical music.

Admission to the performance is free open to the public.
