WBU- Lubbock professor heading professional group

LUBBOCK – Dr. Bill Ballard, associate professor of business at Wayland Baptist University’s Lubbock campus, was recently installed as president of the Southwestern Economics Association (SWEA).

Ballard’s installation was held in conjunction with the SWEA’s 92nd annual convention held March 16-19 in Las Vegas. He will preside at the organization’s 93rd annual convention slated for March 2012 in San Diego, Calif.

 SWEA is an affiliate of the Southwestern Social Sciences Association, the oldest association of social scientists in the United States. The purpose of the association is to promote economic theory and analysis within, but not limited to, the southwestern states through the encouragement of research, discussion, conference, and the publication of research. The association publishes the Southwestern Journal of Economics.

Ballard previously served the organization as program chair. He has been a member of the Wayland faculty in Lubbock since 2002. Ballard holds a bachelor’s degree from Angelo State University and a master’s degree from the University of North Texas. He earned the doctorate degree from the University of Tennessee and also holds a juris doctorate degree from the Texas Tech School of Law.
