February 11, 2011
PLAINVIEW – Wayland Baptist University will host the 90th annual Pastors’ and Laymen’s Conference on Monday, Feb. 28 and Tuesday, March 1. This year’s theme, “Great is Thy Faithfulness,” will focus on Deuteronomy 7:9 and God’s faithfulness in keeping his covenant to those who follow him.
Registration will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday in Wayland’s Harral Memorial Auditorium. Monday will feature three sessions beginning at 9:55 a.m. A luncheon will be provided. Participants will be on their own for dinner from 5-6:30 p.m. before returning for the evening session. A Hispanic session will also be held on Monday in Wayland’s Brown Chapel.
The event will feature a number of speakers in three Monday sessions and one Tuesday session, including Dr. David Garland, who will also be the featured guest for the Willson Lectures hosted by Wayland on March 1-2. Garland, Dean of the George W. Truett Seminary at Baylor, will deliver the message at 11 a.m. in the Tuesday session. Those interested in hearing more from Garland, who is a professor of Christian scriptures at Truett and served as interim president of Baylor University from 2008-10, may register for a special dinner at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening. Tickets cost $10 and the dinner will be held in Room 211 of the McClung University Center on the Wayland campus.
Joel Gregory, professor of preaching at Truett Seminary, will also speak at the Monday evening and Tuesday morning sessions. Other featured speakers include Beverly Sutton Miller, the former executive director of the Women’s Missionary Union.
The event will conclude with an optional golf outing on Tuesday afternoon. Those interested in an afternoon of fun and fellowship will meet at the Plainview golf course at 1 p.m. Interested parties will be responsible for their own fees and cart rentals.
