Commencement ceremony slated for May 7

PLAINVIEW – Wayland Baptist University will award 134 degrees during its spring commencement ceremony slated for May 7 at 2 p.m. in Hutcherson Center.
The ceremony will include hooding of 32 master’s degree students as well as 102 undergraduate degree candidates.
Garrett Breazeale, a graduating senior from Gladewater, was selected to give the student address for the ceremony. Other senior student participants will be Marcus Morin of Bloomfield, N.M., giving the invocation; Nicole Taylor of South Fork, Colo., leading the pledge to the American flag; Devin De Loe of Borger, reading the scripture; Allison Vetter of Big Lake, directing the hymn; and Alexis Hall of Lockney, presenting special music. Kendra Ortego of Marble Falls, president of the senior class, will introduce Breazeale.
University President Dr. Paul Armes will present a charge to the graduates and confer degrees, with assistance from Don Jackson, chairman of the Board of Trustees and Dr. Marti Runnels, dean of the School of Fine Arts. Dr. Bobby Hall, executive vice president and provost, will present the candidates for degrees. Armes will also recognize graduates with the highest academic ranking.
The commencement ceremony is being streamed live online thanks to the Association of Former Students. The link, which will be live about five minutes before the ceremony, will be available off the Wayland home page at www.wbu.edu.
