WBU plans study trip to Israel
September 24, 2010
PLAINVIEW – Wayland Baptist University’s School of Religion and Philosophy will lead a study trip to Israel June 8-16, 2011.
The group will leave from Dallas on June 8 and spend several days touring Old and New Testament sites including Tel Aviv, Joppa, the Sea of Galilee, Capernaum and the Dead Sea region. Three full days will be spent in Jerusalem taking walking tours of the city as well as touring churches and other historical sites. The trip will also include and excursion to Bethlehem. Led by EF Tours, tour guides will accompany the group, leading discussion and answering questions.
The trip is open to anyone who wants to participate. The cost round trip from Dallas is $3,400 per person for anyone registering prior to Oct. 1. The cost will increase approximately $200 after the Oct. 1 deadline. The price includes travel, lodging and most meals. Participants will need to supply one meal per day and any additional spending money. Anyone interested may register online at eftours.com by using the tour number 518915.
Students wishing to receive course credit will register for the course and spend a few extra days prior to departure in a classroom setting preparing for the trip. Students will be required to keep journals, answer questions and reflect on their time in Israel. There will be no lecture time on the tour, however. All research will be completed before the trip and students will compare their physical experiences with their research.
“We anticipate church members, community members, faculty members from other disciplines and students,” said WBU Professor of Religion Dr. David Howle. “We will have a good mix of people with different experiences.”
