Mark Pair recital set for Oct. 18
October 11, 2010
PLAINVIEW – Wayland Baptist University will host Piano Artist in Residence Mark Pair on Monday, Oct. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in Wayland’s Harral Memorial Auditorium.
Pair’s program, Piano Music of Grieg Part II-B, consists of the lyric pieces and original piano works of composer Edward Grieg. Referring to himself as “the Chopin of the North Countries,” Grieg utilized folk-like dances and songs of his native country to inspire his compositions. Pair has performed numerous works by Grieg and believes strongly in his interpretation of the composer’s works.
Grieg lived during the late Romantic Era in music and has been credited with influence other composers such as Debussy. Grieg combines classical techniques with rhythmic folk songs and dances of Norway to paint tonal pictures.
Pair’s performance will feature a number of Grieg’s shorter compositions including, “Last Spring,” Procession of Gnomes,” “A Ride at Night, “Tempest Clouds” and others.
Admission to the concert is free and open to the public.
