Miracle Tree banquet slated to remember breast cancer

November 12, 2010

PLAINVIEW – The annual Miracle Tree Breast Cancer Awareness Dinner will be hosted once more by Wayland Baptist University’s Pioneer Health Service Corps to honor survivors and remember those who lost lives to the disease.

The banquet will be held Tuesday, Nov. 30, at 6:30 p.m. in McClung Center room 211. Tickets are $12 per person.

The banquet will include a meal and an address by Dr. Adam Reinhart, professor of biology and chemistry at Wayland, who will speak about student research being conducted into breast cancer. Reinhart is also the health careers coordinator at WBU and the sponsor for PHSC, an organization for students entering the various health professions.

“This event is to honor those whose lives have been affected by breast cancer. As part of the program, participants will have a chance to specifically honor individuals who have fought or are fighting breast cancer,” Reinhart said. “It is also a chance to talk about specific undergraduate research projects underway that focus on plant-derived molecules and their possible use as chemotherapeutic agents.”

A tree will be set up with guests able to add pink ribbons with the names of friends and family to decorate the tree during the banquet.

Tickets and more information are available by calling Reinhart at 291-1124. Deadline to reserve places is Tuesday, Nov. 23.
