SIFE to host community recycling meeting
March 2, 2010
PLAINVIEW – Wayland Baptist University’s chapter of Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) will host a public forum to discuss “Waste Management and the Future of Plainview” at 7 p.m. on March 11 in the Nunn Business Building auditorium on the Wayland campus.
SIFE conducted a community survey recently to gather data concerning recycling habits of Plainview residents. SIFE teamed with Wayland’s geological society and the WBU chapter of the American Chemical Society to determine not only how much of the community recycles, but also if community members would be willing to recycle if the opportunity were more readily available. The information gathered will be presented at the meeting.
Dr. Sam Van Hoose, sponsor of the SIFE program, said they hope to include public officials representing Plainview’s public works department, the landfill, recycling center and waste water treatment plant in the discussion. He hopes to have the mayor, city manager, and main street coordinator as well as WBU representatives in attendance.
The meeting is being co-sponsored by PEGA, Pitch-in-Plainview and the City of Plainview.
