Wayland to host Summer Splash for area families

August 6, 2010

PLAINVIEW – Wayland Baptist University will once again host its annual Summer Splash event for school children and their families as a “last chance” to enjoy the summer sun before the new school year starts.

This year’s event will be held on Sunday, August 15 from 2-4:30 p.m. on the Wayland campus, specifically at the lawn area at 6th and Travis Streets. The free, come-and-go event will feature numerous inflatable games, bounce houses, water slide and carnival games for children. Parents are encouraged to come join the fun as well.

A project of the Office of Student Activities, the Summer Splash is staffed by the new freshman class at Wayland and the current students leading Koinonia, Wayland’s new student orientation program which begins Friday.

“We wanted our students to be involved in a service project for the community where they could interact with folks and get to know their new home away from home,” said Teresa Moore, Director of Student Leadership and Involvement at WBU. “The summer splash is just a fun time for area kids to enjoy the last few weeks of summer before school starts back up.”

Snacks, face painting and prizes will also be on hand for the event, and each child in attendance will receive a Wayland pencil pouch, pencil and eraser while supplies last.

Admission is free but canned food donations are encouraged to benefit the local Faith in Sharing House food bank. For more information, contact Student activities at 291-3752.
