Local Realtor to be honored with Women in Business Award

April 13, 2010

PLAINVIEW – Kim Street, co-owner of Street Real Estate, will be one of three local women honored with the Women in Business Award by Wayland Baptist University’s Students in Free Enterprise team. The award will be presented at a banquet to be held Thursday, April 22, at 7 p.m. in the McClung Center.

A native of Kress, Street and husband Johnny opened their real estate business in January 2005. Prior to that, Street had worked as a realtor for Billington Real Estate for four years and owned and operated the Kress Chronicle for a year. Johnny was a farmer for 22 years, and Kim was a homemaker and mother for many years.

Kim said it was a love for people that drove her to the real estate business originally, and she earned her license in March 2001.

“I enjoy being around people and helping them find their dream home, so to speak. We have a lot of young couples in our community, and it’s always fun to help them find their first home,” she said. “Of course, helping sellers sell their home at the right price is fun too.”

She is a member of the Plainview Association of Realtors, where she served as president in 2004 and was on the board the past eight years, two as secretary. She was named that group’s Realtor of the Year in 2004.

Locally, Kim is also involved in Junior Service League, currently as service secretary, is on the board of the Plainview Country Club and the Plainview Chamber of Commerce, and is in the Rotary Club, about to serve her first term on its board. She is a member of First Baptist Church and sings in the choir.

The streets have three children: Dusty, 26, who works as a commodities and logistics manager at Legacy Farms in Plainview; Travis, 24, student at West Texas A&M; and JuLea, 20, also a realtor with the agency.

Other honorees to be recognized at the banquet include Nicki Bruce Logan of the Plainview Daily Herald and Tiffany Barnes, owner of Petals.

Tickets to the banquet are $20 per person and reservations may be made by calling the School of Business at 291-1020. Deadline to reserve is Monday, April 19.
