PLAINVIEW – Mark Anthony Pair, piano artist in residents at Wayland Baptist University, will be featured in a piano concert on Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in Harral Memorial Auditorium. The program is Grieg Piano Music Part Two A.
The program consists of the lyric pieces and original piano works of the composer Edvard Grieg. A Norwegian, Grieg referred to himself as the Chopin of the North Countries. Grieg, like Chopin, utilized folk-like dances and songs of his native country. He is known for his famous Piano Concerto in A Minor which Pair and Dr. Gary Belshaw performed at Wayland last year.
Pair is particularly fond on Grieg’s work, having performed numerous pieces by the composer. Grieg influenced later works, including those by Debussy. Classified as a Romanticist-Impressionist, Grieg uses techniques that reflect elements of Debussyism or Impressionism. It is said that Grieg paints tone pictures.
The program will feature three Norwegian dances, one Norwegian march, one Norwegian melody and the national song of Grieg’s day. These pieces are shorter than his concerto and sonata.
Admission to the concert if free and open to the public.
