Lubbock Campus hosting golf tourney fundraiser
LUBBOCK – With the goal of helping fund scholarships for students in need, Wayland Baptist University’s Lubbock Campus will once again be hosting the Lubbock Lights Golf Tournament on Monday, October 13.
In its fifth year, the tournament raises funds for scholarships for students attending the Lubbock Campus. Primarily, the campus reaches a nontraditional adult population that is pursuing education in the evenings, on weekends and online while working full-time.
“Since our older, working adult students do not qualify for traditional sources of scholarship funds, the golf benefit provides a great source for scholarships for the Lubbock Campus,” said Dr. Kent Brooks, director of development for the campus. “The Lubbock Campus students often need a little extra in financial support to continue their pursuit of a degree.”
The four-man scramble tournament will be held at Hillcrest Country Club, located at 4011 North Boston, with a morning flight beginning at 8 a.m. and the afternoon flight at 1 p.m. Breakfast, lunch and a late afternoon meal are provided for all participants, and each golfer will receive a gift bag, a bucket of driving range balls and cart use.
First-, second- and third-place teams will receive prizes for the tournament. Other contests planned include a putting contest, the longest drive and the closest to the pin contest.
Registration fees are $125 per person, and sponsorships are available for companies or individuals who would like to support the university even more. Team sponsorship, which includes registration for four players and the company name at a tee box, is $750. Other sponsor opportunities are available, including event, corporate and hole sponsorships for both flights.
