Special centennial class ring, ceremony to be introduced at Wayland

PLAINVIEW – In conjunction with Wayland Baptist University’s Centennial Celebration, the Office of Alumni Services and the University Store have collaborated to offer a new Centennial class ring. While the seniors of 2008-09 will be the honor class to wear the ring as graduates during the Centennial, the ring is also open to purchase by alums of any graduation class as a way to have a lasting memento of the 100th anniversary year.

A special ring ceremony is also being developed for the spring term near the May graduation service, and all those purchasing rings are eligible to participate.

“We thought a ring ceremony would be special for our seniors to celebrate their accomplishment, and this year seemed like the perfect time to start that new tradition,” said Danny Andrews, Director of Alumni Development. “We know some of our alumni might also be interested in participating in the ceremony and even purchasing a ring, especially if they never got one when they completed their degree.”

The new ring is available in silver or gold (yellow or white) from Jostens, with inked background as an option. Alums may specify their class year and major on one side, with their degree on the opposite side. The Centennial logo is on the same side as the degree. The top is a flat surface with the school seal on it.

The rings cost $399 for men and $359 for women in the silver version. For gold, the prices are as follows, depending on the purity of gold: 10K - $499 men, $429 women; 14K - $599 men, $499 women; 18K - $719 men, $599 women.

Participants may choose to pay in full at the time of ordering with a check or by credit card, or use balance billing, with a $50 deposit due at ordering and the remainder invoiced and payable upon receipt. Credit card installments are also available, with four equal payments charged to a card, with the first due at the time of order. Jostens also offers a payment plan with a $50 deposit due at the order and the balance billed in four monthly installments. A $15 holding fee is added with that option.

Rings are shipped once full payment has been received. Production and delivery takes six to eight weeks, so those wishing to participate in the spring ring ceremony should allow plenty of time from their ordering.
