Wayland group and honorary guest present concert

PLAINVIEW – The Wayland Baptist University vocal ensemble Spirit will perform alongside Gather Vocal Band tenor Wes Hampton in a full concert at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5 in Harral Memorial Auditorium.
Hampton has been singing with the Gaither Vocal Band for the past three years after completing his musical studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Hampton and Daniel Brown, adjunct professor of music and director of Spirit at Wayland, studied together under the same professor. They also performed opera scenes and sang in choirs together.
Hampton completed his bachelor of psychology degree with a minor in music in August of 2000. He then served as part of the worship staff at The Church at Brook Hills until he was accepted as the tenor for the Gaither Vocal Band in June of 2005. In 2006, Hampton won the Singing News Horizon Individual Fan Award for best new artist and he was nominated with the Gaither Vocal Band for a Grammy in 2007. The Gaither Vocal Band has currently been nominated for three GMA Awards, including best southern gospel song of the year, best southern gospel record of the year and best long form video of the year for Give it Away.
Hampton will perform several solo pieces as well as collaborative works with Spirit.
Spirit is a seven-member vocal ensemble. The group will perform several pieces, including “The Star Spangled Banner,” “Saved the Day,” “Fill-a-me-up,” “Why” and “Celtic Blessing.”
Admission to the concert is $5 for adults. Students of all ages will be admitted free of charge. Advanced tickets may be purchased by calling the Division of Fine Arts at 291-1060. Tickets will also be available at the door at the north ticket booth prior to the concert.
