Release Date: February 7, 2008

PLAINVIEW – The 87th Annual Panhandle Plains Pastors’ and Laymen’s Conference will take place Feb. 18-19 at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview. The 2-day event will feature meetings, worship, messages, music and a golf tournament for those interested.

This year’s theme, Transforming Churches Through Transformed Lives, focuses on Matthew 6:13-20. Various messages and Bible study will focus on this text and how it affects the lives of Christians and the church.

Calvin Miller, D. Min, Sandy Maddox and Leighton Flowers will serve as guest speakers at the event.

A native of Enid, Okla., Miller earned his doctorate in 1998 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. Miller is a faculty member at Samford University’s Beeson Divinity School and has written more than 40 books of popular theology and inspiration.

Maddox, from Orlando, Fla., has been a conference and retreat speaker for many years, traveling within the United States and Canada. Through another area of her ministry, Treasures of Heart and Home, she has challenged and inspired many with a message of encouragement.

Flowers is the Youth Evangelism Director for the Baptist General Convention of Texas. In this position he directs a statewide youth leadership training camp called Super Summer, impacting thousands of Christian teenagers with in-depth bible study and discipleship training. Leighton also directs the Youth Evangelism Conference, reaching 10,000 to 20,000 Texas teenagers with the gospel of Christ each year.

Musical guest Blake Bolerjack will perform mini-concerts during the Monday evening and Tuesday morning sessions. Bolerjack began a career in concert ministry in 1998 shortly after graduating from Oklahoma Baptist University. He first toured with The Continental Singers in the summer of 1998, singing backup for Greg Long. He has since toured with Living Proof, Primary Focus, Youth Quest and The Master’s Hand Quartet. Blake is a studio singer for “Christian World” tracks and has opened on stage for Hope’s Call and Luke Garrett.

On Tuesday afternoon, guests of the conference may participate in the Pastors’ Masters Golf Tournament at the Plainview Country Club. The entry fee is $40 and includes lunch and prizes. Anyone interested in playing in the golf tournament needs to contact Micheal Summer at 806-291-1165.
