School year opens with new faculty

PLAINVIEW – With the fall semester back in full swing at Wayland Baptist University, classrooms are dotted with familiar faces, new students and a group of new faculty members filling new positions and taking over for others who have retired or moved on.
The Plainview campus has eight new faculty members this fall, including a familiar face in the library. Dann Wigner was promoted to faculty status upon completion of his master’s in library science degree from North Texas. Wigner will serve as the coordinator of distance library services and instructor of library science. Wigner has worked with the library since 2003.
Denton Lankford, J.D., has joined the School of Behavioral and Social Sciences as associate professor of justice and public administration. Lankford hold bachelor’s and master’s degrees in journalism from the University of Alabama as well as a jurist doctorate from the Birmingham School of Law. He has worked with various law enforcement agencies since 1980, including stints with the U.S. Treasury Department and Immigration and Naturalization Services now known as ICE. He is also retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserve.
Janet Jones, D.B.A., joins the School of Business as assistant professor of management, primarily teaching online courses. Jones holds a doctorate of business administration from Nova Southeastern University as well as a master’s in business administration from Samford University and a bachelor’s degree in English, French and Spanish from Murray State University. She has taught in various colleges and universities since 1994.
Also joining the School of Business as an assistant professor of management is Cynthia Holubik. Holubik holds a master’s degree in education from Texas Tech University as well as a master of science in management from St. Mary’s University. She is currently working toward her doctorate in educational and instructional technology at Texas Tech University.
Wayland graduate Jessica Faucett (B.S. 2006) returns to Wayland as an instructor of mathematics, joining the faculty in the School of Mathematics and Sciences. Faucett completed her master’s degree in mathematics at New Mexico State University in 2007.
Also joining the School of Mathematics and Sciences is Herbert Grover, Ph.D., as professor of biology. Dr. Grover holds a Ph.D. in biology from the University of New Mexico as well as a master’s in botany from Rutgers University and a bachelor’s degree from Rider University. Dr. Grover comes to Wayland from Hardin-Simmons University where he served as a professor of biology since 1995. He was also biology department head from 1999-2002. He has also held various teaching position with the University of New Mexico and other organizations since 1984.
Dr. Richard Fountain has joined the School of Music as assistant professor of collaborative piano. Fountain holds a master’s degree in piano performance from the University of Nebraska as well as a bachelor’s from Taylor University. He completed his doctorate in piano performance at the University of Nebraska in May, where he has served as a graduate teaching assistant since 2004.
Yahui Zhang has joined the School of Fine Arts as assistant professor of communication studies. Zhang recently completed her doctorate in communications at Bowling Green University. She also holds a master’s degree in scientific and technical communication from Bowling Green as well as a master’s in British and American cultural studies from Xi’an International Studies University in China. Zhang has been working in various teaching roles since 2002.
Wayland is also proud to announce the addition of a full-time associate professor of nursing to work with the nursing program at WBU San Antonio. Dorothy Diaz holds a jurist doctorate from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio as well as a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Incarnate Word and a master’s in women’s health from the University of Colorado. She holds a number of licenses in both the legal and nursing fields and has worked in either the legal or healthcare arenas since 1976.
