WBU Performing Scenes from Operas

PLAINVIEW – Wayland Baptist University will conduct its second annual opera scenes performance featuring Wayland’s Department of Music. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday in Harral Auditorium’s studio theatre, the Black Box.

The performance, directed by Wayland’s director of vocal studies, opera and musical theatre, Jeff Kensmoe, will revisit the work of Seymour Barab, the composer of the “Little Red Riding Hood” children’s opera that Wayland students performed in the fall. The performance will feature Barab’s “A Game of Chance,” a humorous one-act opera that deals with themes such as being careful what you wish for and doing anything, including selling you soul, in order to receive your wish.

The performance will also include scenes from Bock and Harnick’s “She Love’s Me,” Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Mikado,” Schmidt and Jones’ “The Fantasticks,” P.D.Q. Bach’s “Stoned Guest” and three scenes from the beloved “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown,” by Clark Gesner.

Admission is free and open to the public.
